PLEASANT HILL, AUGUST 8, 2018 – It was an amazing night at Kaufman Stadium to watch the future of Kansas City Royal’s baseball.  In the first inning the Cubs – winners of the first two games of this series – stood in to bat.  Anthony Rizzo – on his birthday – faced a rookie pitcher by the name of Heath Fillmyer.

Rizzo did a good job of making contact, sent the ball back to the pitcher’s mound and hit the rookie’s foot.  It will certainly a memorable start to Fillmyer’s career with the Royals, and a warm welcome to the K.

The best part of the night for me, was that my daughter – a strong Cubs fan – had come to town to see the Cubs and visit, and we were enjoying a night of baseball.  This is a tradition of sorts, that goes back to the late 80’s at Yankee Stadium when all of us got to watch a baseball game together.

The Royals have a bright future in newcomers like Fillmyer and Phillips.  It will be fun to watch the Royals in the coming years.
