Picture of Minuteman, Liberty Bell, and not the UNLEE’S SUMMIT, July 9, 2012 –  In the front page of the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty (ATT)  you will find the following statement:

From 2-27 July, all countries of the world will come together in New York to negotiate what is seen as the most important initiative ever regarding conventional arms regulation within the United Nations. A robust arms trade treaty can make a difference for millions of people confronted with insecurity, deprivation and fear.

Amazingly benign words, aren’t they?  Would you not be completely for this treaty?

The claim is that it will help prevent mass atrocities throughout the world by limiting the ability of rogue nation states from obtaining weapons to turn on their own people, or neighboring countries.

While that is the stated purpose,  a careful reading of the draft proposal being discussed at the UN this month clearly shows that it has very little to do with international government to government sales of arms:

“…shall be implemented in a manner that would avoid hampering the right of self-defense of any State party.

If you think that’s not nonsense, think about Russia’s President recently stating that “Russia does  not supply Syria with weapons that are used in domestic conflicts” meaning that they are for [State Self Defense].  Obviously this would not violate the treaty – How is Russia to control the weapons once the sale for Self-Defense falls into the wrong hands in the government of Syria and is used to kill their own people in massacre after massacre?

So, what does all that have to do with the 2nd Amendment?  Plenty!

The ATT goes into great detail laying out the groundwork for making it illegal for law-abiding nations to manufacture weapons for sale to its citizens that could:

“Be diverted to unauthorized end-users for use in a manner inconsistent with the principles, goals and objectives of the Treaty, taking into account the risk of corruption.”

“Be used in the commission of transnational organized crime as defined in the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime.” [Read, Fast and Furious violation]

Did you know that in the Constitution of the United States in Article 6 states that:

“This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.”

How do you defeat the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution of the United States?  You sign a Treaty that puts limitations on the “…right to bear arms…” by limiting the sale and transfer of ownership of the very arms that the 2nd Amendment protects.

Do your own research on the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty and come to your own conclusions.  As for me, I say we should all contact EVERY Senator – especially republican Senators – and tell them NOT to ratify this treaty because it will over rule the Sovereignty of the United States, its Constitution and specifically the 2nd Amendment.  To add insult to injury, it will have no effect on the lawless nations of the world who constantly flout international law.

I can just see President Vladimir Putin, or the Iranian Revolutionary Guard quaking in their boots at statements like the one from Louis Belanger writing on behalf of the Oxford Committee for Famine Relief (OXFAM):

“With an ATT in force, Russia would have been clear that shipments of ammunition to states committing serious violations of human rights (as Syria) are forbidden under international law…. Iran too, would have been subject to the full force of international law. It rejects the current UN arms embargo, but with the ATT in force it would have to recognize that the actions of its Revolutionary Guards breached international law.”

I am truly incredulous of what some people believe.  International law will affect the Revolutionary Guard’s behavior. Isn’t the annihilation of Israel strictly prohibited by International law?

So why does Iran and its Revolutionary Guard not abide by International law?

Oh, that’s right – they don’t care!

So why should American Citizens give up their right to bear arms, when the very nations that are committing these atrocities will completely ignore the international law.

Contact your Senators; tell them to vote NO on the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty.

This is the time for all good Americans to draw the line, and tell those in Government – the ones we elect to represent us: Never Compromise American Sovereignty!
