Teacher of the Year from Lee’s Summit
Traveling through China this week, I received the Teacher of the Year announcement from Representative Will Kraus. It truly is an honor to know that a Lee’s Summit Teacher was awarded the Teacher of the year award; and that she participated in the 2007 China Delegation. Congratulations Ms. Mitko:
On the Floor of the House of Representatives
Jefferson City – On Thursday, April 8, Rep. Will Kraus, R-Lee’s Summit, honored Lee’s Summit teacher Susanne Mitko on the floor of the House of Representatives with a House Resolution. Mitko, who teaches 6th and 7th grade social studies at Bernard Campbell Middle School, has been selected as the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education 2009 Missouri Teacher of the Year.
“Teachers are some of the most important people in a child’s life,” Rep. Will Kraus said. “Ms. Mitko has impacted hundreds of kids with her enthusiasm for teaching and her creativity. As a history teacher, Ms. Mitko is incredibly talented at connecting world history to her student’s lives. Her ability to spark the interest of her students gives them an appreciation of history and of the education they’ve received from her and so many other teachers.”
Mitko’s many accomplishments include that she has participated in the 2007 Lee’s Summit China delegation, tutored students in her school district’s Project Success program, mentored new teachers and served as the school yearbook sponsor for four years. “A teacher must set and achieve high goals both for herself and her students in order to earn such a prestigious award,” noted Rep. Will Kraus.
