Pleasant Hill, April 6, 2020 – Like most of us who spend a lot more time in front of the television, yesterday afternoon I watched as President Donald Trump stated that he had seen gas prices as low as $0.91 per gallon.

Then I saw this tweet by John Hohmann, the National Political Correspondent for The Washington Post.

James Hohmann Tweet debunking the 91 cent per gallon comment by Trump.

I went looking for the lowest price I could find in the 50 states.  I used GasBuddy (www.gasbuddy.com).  In a few moments I found the following:

Michigan Lowest Prices
Wisconsin Lowest Prices
Oklahoma Lowest Prices

It is possible that James Hohmann is a great journalist.  It is possible that he mixed the statement by President Trump.  In my recollection Trump said something like, “I’ve seen prices as low as…” and Mr. Hohmann interpreted that as the national average price as reported yesterday by Triple A.

In my short review of the current pricing for gasoline, there are prices in the nineties if you live in the right state, the right community and visit the right gas station.
